Alexander Hehmeyer papers, 1920-1987.

Memoranda, copies of outgoing correspondence (1930s to mid-1980s), speeches, financial statements, topical files on international business and foreign policy issues, legal files, and essays, pertaining to Alexander Hehmeyer's career with Field Enterprises, where he served as Corporate Counsel (1947-1975), and with its affiliate, the American Heritage Publishing Company, as well as his activities as president (1970s) of the Drake Tower Apartments (Chicago, Ill.), board member of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, participant in the World Study Group of the Adlai Stevenson Institute, traveler to the Middle East (1973) with a group of "Senior Chicago businessmen," member of the Peace Corps Advisory Council (appointed by President Reagan, 1982), and partner in the law firm of Lincoln, Isham and Beale following his retirement from Field Enterprises in 1975. Topics include Hehmeyer's activities promoting U.S. business interests abroad, especially in the Middle East and Japan, and many writings concern world economic issues. Materials from the Chicago branch of the English-Speaking Union, in which Hehmeyer's wife was vice-president, are also present.
